What's the Deal with Meal Timing

How often do I eat? Am I eating too much? These questions can frustrate and confuse us when we are trying to reach our fitness/health goals. From my experience I’ve realized the more times I eat per day the healthier I feel and the better my fitness progresses. I’m not saying you should go out and eat 800-calorie meals a bunch of times a day, that would be a bad idea. What I’m saying is eating well portioned meals 5-6 times a day will improve your health and fitness.

Think of your body like a car. A car that has been sitting in your driveway for a month, not driven, with no battery use, and low fuel will most likely work less than satisfactory. The car might not start right away if at all and you might run out of fuel. On the other hand a car that is being driven once or twice a day getting fuel when ever it runs below a half or quarter tank will function much better. The car is getting the fuel it needs to run, never running on empty and the battery is being used/charged each time you drive it. Your body is no different. The more you give your body what it needs to function while being, the better it will work, feel, look.

Meal timing is everything!

1. Eat 5 meals a day.

2. Make sure your meals are at least 2 hours apart, so your body has time to digest and utilize the nutrients.

3. Make sure you’re waiting 30 minutes to an hour after eating to do intense exercise, so your body does not get overwhelmed from trying to digest and be active simultaneously.

4. Try to eat your last meal at least 1 ½ to 2 hours before you go to sleep, so your body can digest your food and you don’t go to sleep on a full stomach.

5. Drink water and eating something when you get up to boost your metabolism and start your day off right.
